- There are a few ways to deal with errors. An ideal method is to use a scsi
- utility which allows you to enable the drive's own error recovery firmware, if
- it has it. Then, format it and do some sort of read/write test or function,
- until all the errors have been "repaired". Not all drives support this, nor
- does the typical HD prepping software usually have this option. It has been a
- while since I did this with a bad drive, so I don't recall exactly what I did.
- It was on a Supra 500XP, and Supra's own software had the option to set drive
- modes.
-
- Another method, though not as effective, is to use a utility to map bad blocks
- as unusable. Unlike the drive's own capability, this mapping may be erased
- allow you to use the drive.
